Spring Fling an M&M Challenge Part Four

Updated: Apr 17, 2024

Time to put those 4-patches aside. We’ll get back to them later.

Now, let’s get some HST’s made. Half-Square Triangles – we LOVE them!! Dig out your 5” charms. Remember … we‘re going scrappy - wild and crazy, bright and beautiful, fun and fancy. These charms should be darks, mediums and/or brights.

You are going to need some consistent fabric for your Background. If you are daring, your background can also be scrappy but be careful - for this block to “work”, you need to have a little break from the riot of color we have used so far. If you want to stay scrappy (including Background), make sure it all “reads” the same color. Don’t be going all color crazy with your background - you won't like the results. Cut your Background fabric(s) into 5" squares.

Next, place 1 Charm right sides together with 1 Background square. You should know the drill by now – draw a diagonal line, stitch a ¼” from each side of the line, cut apart ON the line, press and square-up to 4 ½” x 4 ½”. You have now created 2 HSTs. See the chart below to determine how many HSTs you will need for the size quilt you are making. Reminder: each completed quilt block will eventually measure 16 1/2" x 16 1/2".
